Shirley Ayres
Shirley is our Principal Consultant. She is a respected commentator on strategic development, knowledge management and communication issues in the care sector and the particular challenges confronting service users and carers. She has extensive knowledge of using social networking tools to promote excellence in social work and social care. A qualified social worker and marketer Shirley holds an MSc in Marketing and is an Honorary Senior Visiting Fellow in Interdisciplinary Studies in Professional Practice at City University London. Shirley is a member of the LGA Communities of Practice and contributes to a number of the forums.
Shirley has co-founded a number of online communities including the Advanced Social Work Practice Network , the Network for Professional working with vulnerable children and young people. She is the author of The Click Guide to Children's Services and Making Sense of the Post Qualifying Framework a Guide for Employers. Her report The future for personalisation? Service users, carers & digital engagement, produced in collaboration with The Institute for Research in Social Services, was guided by an online reference group which included service users, carers and practitioners.
Shirley has successfully managed a considerable number of complex projects which have involved quantitative and qualitative research including online surveys, communication and negotiation with a diversity of stakeholders in both the public, private and third sectors.
She has extensive experience in researching and analysing complex data and presenting the information in comprehensive and or specialist terms and easily understandable language. She is committed to the use of plain English in documents to promote equality of access to knowledge and resources. Shirley has written numerous published articles and reports on the changing face of social work and social care in the UK.
